Resource of the Week: The Sophisticated Marketer’s Podcasts

Tune into the latest marketing thinking.

July 7, 2015

Marketing is an ideas business. And there’s no better trigger for fresh ideas than a half-hour chat with genuinely original thinkers. That’s what LinkedIn’s Jason Miller provides through The Sophisticated Marketer’s Podcasts: half-hour interviews with the pioneers who are helping to shape modern marketing. If there’s a secret sauce when it comes to creative thinking, then the podcast archive is a cupboard crammed full of the stuff.

I started listening to the podcasts when I was following our coverage of the Cannes Lions last month – and I’ve got no plans to stop. Because when you’re getting half-hour packages of insight into top creative operators like John Mescall of McCann World Group (the agency behind Dumb Ways to Die), Daniel Bonner of Razorfish (responsible for Smart Car’s infamous bird poop tweet) and Ian Haworth (HP’s B2B disrupting 72 Hours of Yes), you find a way to free up half an hour in your day to listen.

The interviews cover everything from the stories behind some of marketing’s most famous campaigns, to the strangest requests ever made by clients, to the marketing metric you’d be stranded with on a desert island and the habits and rituals that can help make creative magic happen. It’s a great use of your ears while commuting or (if you’re like me) going for a run.

Subscribe to the Sophisticated Marketer’s podcast on iTunes and you’ll get the latest interviews delivered direct to you – alternatively you can catch up on all of the episodes so far on this topics page. In my view, it’s well worth doing so.
