B2B Beat: What the LinkedIn SlideShare Enhancements Mean for Marketers

It may be an exaggeration, but if it is, it’s only a slight one: B2B marketing teams and sales departments have a single combined goal – getting their pitch decks in front of as many prospects as possible, whether in person or online.
LinkedIn SlideShare, which was founded in 2006 with the goal of making the sharing of knowledge easy, helps sales and marketing teams in their quest to get their PowerPoints and other presentations seen – at scale. Currently, more than 18 million slide decks have been posted on LinkedIn SlideShare with about 400,000 new presentations added every month.
This week, SlideShare was rebranded LinkedIn SlideShare to reflect the deeper integration of the product into LinkedIn. With the rebranding came some enhancements, which are of use and should be of interest to marketers – especially B2B marketers.
Users of LinkedIn SlideShare can now more easily access the profiles of the people who have posted presentations and quickly ascertain information about their background, such as if they are a subject matter expert. Additional integrations with the professional network are coming in the future.
In announcing the rebranding, LinkedIn SlideShare also introduced a new tool: Clipping. The Clipping tool enables a user to quickly and easily save and share slides from presentations on LinkedIn SlideShare across your social networks on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Here’s how the LinkedIn SlideShare blog described the new feature:
“You can now clip and save the best slides from presentations across LinkedIn SlideShare to view or share later. It’s is a handy way to keep everything organized in topic-based Clipboards. You can also share your great finds to benefit the whole community.”
Some influencers have already started using Clipping. Ann Handley, for instance, has created a LinkedIn SlideShare page called “Content Marketing Truths” using the Clipping tool. Similarly, Bernard Marr has created a big data page, which he describes as the “Best slides for those looking for an introduction to Big Data.”
For marketers and salespeople, the LinkedIn SlideShare Clipping tool can be an avenue to reach more prospects with slides and presentations that get across their message.
