How to Construct Your Marketing Machine [Infographic]

It should be no surprise to anyone who knows me how big of a KISS fan I am. While traveling back from seeing their 40 anniversary tour last year, I started thinking about how great these guys have been as far as building the ultimate marketing machine. The more I thought about it, the more similarities I found between Paul and Gene’s approach to the band, and how it can describe the perfectly optimized modern marketing team.

Let me explain. I’m watching the show and all of a sudden it hits me like a ten-ton brick. These guys figured this out four decades ago. There are four people on stage, all with their own individual roles, but synced together perfectly in order to deliver an amazing product, in this case a song.  Furthermore, their manager Doc McGhee, which could represent your PR team in this case, is on tour with the band to guide their vision as the hottest band in the world. And finally, and most importantly, they have a thriving community of fans in the form of the Kiss Army to advocate for and share their content. So why can’t your marketing team be organized in a similar fashion? Think about it, PR, Social, Content, Demand Gen, SEO, and the Community all perfectly synced to deliver an amazing experience.

The more I explored my theory I found that it goes way beyond just KISS. From consistent album releases to theatrical onstage antics, the best rock bands exhibit marketing genius that’s off the charts. Each person on the team has an individual role, but together, they create a beautiful final product. For bands, it’s a record. For marketers, it’s big rock content that has high value and can be repurposed again and again.

Just like the members of a band contribute to its collective success, every member of your marketing team brings a skillset that can make for a killer mix. Consider the strategies and successes of acclaimed rock bands to form your own powerhouse of marketing potential.
