Introducing the LinkedIn Millennial Playbook

Before I start this blog post, let me do some marketing due diligence and make sure I’m talking to the right audience. Keep reading this post if:

  • You grew up with the Internet
  • You didn’t see any of the first three Star Wars movies in the theater
  • You were in elementary school (or kindergarten) when grunge was popular
  • You don’t remember leaded gasoline or smoking on airplanes

That should narrow things down a little. If you’re still reading, congratulations! Odds are you were born between 1980 and 2000. In other words, you’re a millennial like me. And if you’re one of the 87 million Millennials on LinkedIn but you’re not sure if you’re getting the most out of the LinkedIn platform, this playbook is for you.

According to Gen Xers and Baby Boomers, we’re lazy, entitled, thin-skinned, and always distracted. We require constant positive feedback. We can’t function without three screens in front of us at all times.

That’s the image of millennials that seems to have stuck in popular culture. But you and I know better. We’re not distracted; we’re connected. We have had to work harder than previous generations to get where we are; we’re far from lazy.

Millennials are the largest, most diverse generation around the globe. There’s a wealth of potential in my generation, and many of us are starting to actualize it. Marketers are desperately trying to understand us because they know how much purchasing power we already have (around $1 trillion annually – nothing to sneeze at), and that we’ll only get more powerful in the next decade.

I started the Millennial Minute blog series to help explain my generation to marketers struggling to make a connection. Now it’s time to create a resource for millennials, by millennials. I wanted to pull together all the great millennial brains on our team to help people like me achieve their career goals with LinkedIn.

The collaborative result is our new eBook: The LinkedIn Millennial Playbook. It’s a guide to help you use the unique qualities our generation possesses to further your career. The playbook features contributions from millennials at LinkedIn, as well as inspiring interviews with millennial entrepreneurs who are changing the business world for the better.

Read The Millennial Playbook to learn:

  • The four categories that characterize millennials’ approach to work and life
  • What millennials want in a job, and how they go about finding a good fit
  • How to build your personal brand on LinkedIn
  • How to make meaningful connections on LinkedIn to advance your career
  • Top millennials to follow by industry for inspiration and advice

For the non-millennials who have read this far: thank you for your interest. While the playbook was written for millennials, it has plenty of great insights for any professional, or any professional trying to better understand millennials.

So whether you’re a member of the generation that is shaping the future, or you just want to know what makes us tick, download The LinkedIn Millennial Playbook to get informed and inspired.
