Jay Jay French rocks our festive marketing playlist
The third in our holiday series of top marketing thought leadership – from the front line of rock n roll
December 14, 2017
The founder, manager and guitarist of Twisted Sister isn’t a voice you’d expect to find on our holiday playlist of great marketing thought leadership. Jay Jay French, though, is far more than just another rock star. If you’ve heard him on The Sophisticated Marketer’s Podcast, you’ll know that he has one of the savviest, marketing-oriented minds in music. And he brings all of that streetwise nous to our third episode of great marketing thought leadership, narrated by top marketing influencers.
The only difference is that Jay Jay opted out of the cover version format. The thought leadership he reads is his own – one of his regular columns for Inc. Magazine that mines the experience of struggling to make it in the New York rock scene for insight on getting to the top in any creative profession. True to form, it’s not advice you’d necessarily predict. There are no feel-good platitudes about passion and authenticity being enough; surprisingly little about backing your own judgment or silencing the critics. Jay Jay dispenses gravelly voiced wisdom from the frontline of creativity – you need passion, but you need to know it has a time limit; you’re a fool for ignoring the opinion of people you may have a low opinion of; you make it when your work is good enough – and not before.
It’s wisdom that’s more Fairytale of New York than Walking in the Air – and that’s why it’s a great addition to our festive playlist. Plus you get Twisted Sister performing O Come All Ye Faithful. Don’t say we’re not getting you in the holiday spirit!
