LinkedIn Launches First Hollywood Promotion with Lee Daniels’ The Butler – In Theaters Today

It’s a beautiful thing when Hollywood and social media come together to help people succeed in their careers. That’s exactly what our first film partnership with Lee Daniels’ The Butler aims to accomplish.

Launched last month and ending this Sunday, 8/18, the Path To Success contest invites users to enter to win a career experience of a lifetime in NYC, where three lucky professionals will receive access to a top recruiter, an executive and a renowned career coach.

From a marketer’s perspective, this promotion from The Weinstein Company is a great example of how brands can take advantage of custom LinkedIn API solutions. It’s also the first creative use of LinkedIn data for promotional purposes within the entertainment vertical.

In this case, once users sign in using their LinkedIn profile, they are able to visualize their work histories alongside that of Cecil Gaines' storied career. They are also given the chance to increase their chances of winning by sending thank-you notes to individuals in their LinkedIn network who have helped them professionally in their career.

Lee Daniels’ The Butler tells the fictional story of White House butler Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker), who serves for seven presidential administrations, between the 1950s and 1980s. The movie was inspired by Wil Haygood's 2008 Washington Post article "A Butler Well Served by This Election," which tracked former executive mansion butler Eugene Allen. It features an all-star cast, including Whitaker, Robin Williams, John Cusack, Oprah Winfrey, Jane Fonda, Alan Rickman, Cuba Gooding, Jr., James Marsden and Liev Schreiber.

Catch a sneak peak below, then go see it in theaters this weekend.

And don’t forget to enter the Path To Success contest before it ends this Sunday!
