The Sophisticated Marketer’s Podcast: Life after Keywords with Michael Stricker
December 22, 2015
2015 was an exciting year for LinkedIn Marketing Solutions. We took a few calculated risks, put out some seriously cool content, and I threw my hat into the podcasting ring. Fourteen episodes in, the Sophisticated Marketer’s Podcast is still going strong. It’s been a great opportunity to talk with some of marketing’s most interesting people, and I’ve enjoyed sharing their insights with you.
For the final episode of 2015, I am joined by Michael Stricker, the U.S. Marketing Director for SEMRush. Michael has been on my radar for a while now, because SEMRush is championing a holistic view of content and SEO that seems like the right way forward for the industry. When I heard his presentation at ClickZ Live, “Keywords Are Dead: The Zombie Search Apocalypse,” I knew I had to get him on the show.
So join Michael and me as we talk SEO, marketing to millennials, and how to thrive in the new attention economy.
Listen in on the conversation as Michael and I discuss:
The Future of Keywords: Keywords used to be very specific words or short phrases you stuffed into content, as many as possible. Michael explains the shift from keywords to longer queries, and the importance of long-tail keywords in SEO.
Long-Tail Keywords Across the Funnel: Michael and I describe the kinds of phrases marketers should focus on for top, middle, and bottom of funnel content.
The Growing Importance of Schema: The major search engines got together to create a markup format that helps search engines understand your site, which can lead to better visibility. Michael explains what Schema is, why it’s important, and how you can make it work for your site.
How We Can Reach the Kids These Days: There’s a lot of buzz in marketing circles about how to communicate with millennials. Are they really that different? Michael shares his take on the topic.
How to Use Social for Better Rankings: It’s less about social posts showing up in rankings, and more about using social data to create better content.
Michael’s One Big Trend for 2016: Find out what Michael thinks will be a major opportunity for marketers to differentiate themselves in the coming year.
Michael is an inspiring example of the new breed of hybrid marketer. He’s an SEO expert who uses his knowledge to inform a holistic view of marketing that unites SEO, content, and social to get results. You can hit him up at @RadioMS, and check out SEMRush’s home page for more information.
Thanks again for listening and participating in this content experiment with me. I have even more awesome guests in store for 2016, so stay tuned!
