The Sophisticated Marketer’s Podcast: Blogging, Branding, and Podcasts with Sonia Simone

May 11, 2016

There are two schools of thought when it comes to gating content: One is to give away just enough to pique interest and gate the rest, while the other says you should give away as much value as you can.

My guest on the podcast this week is definitely a fan of the latter. As the Chief Content Officer at Copyblogger, Sonia Simone helps oversee an owned media empire with mountains of ungated content. Blog posts, podcasts, infographics… You name it and you can find it on Copyblogger. You’ll find loads of value in their gated content, of course, but they’re definitely not stingy with the free stuff.

In addition to her work at Copyblogger, Sonia has built a powerful personal brand for herself, with her own podcast series and speaking engagements at Content Marketing World and the Authority Rainmaker conference.

Tune in as Sonia and I talk about managing your content cadence, capturing brilliant ideas, and how to fake transparency and authenticity (not that you should). Plus, this show features more laser beams than any previous episode.

Listen in on the Conversation as Sonia and I Discuss:

Idea Generation as Part of Your Workflow: The team at Copyblogger has a seemingly bottomless well of content ideas. Sonia shares her tips for capturing ideas before they slip away.

Did Content Marketing Destroy the Publishing Industry? Sonia believes content marketing “rose from the ashes” of journalism. She ponders the impact of content marketing on small, mid-level, and big publishing outfits.

Building a Personal Brand: For Sonia, it’s not all about finding a differentiator—though she definitely sees the value of, for example, her signature pink hair. Rather, it’s about consistently putting out content you’re proud to have identified with your brand.

Transparency and Authenticity: Buzzwords or Watchwords? Sonia discusses how transparency and authenticity are often faked in the marketing world, but doesn’t discount the real cultural movement behind the terms.

Podcasting and Patience: Sonia believes podcasting is a great content marketing tool, but outlines the challenges she faced as a fledgling podcaster, and how she overcame them.

Sonia Simone is a brilliant content marketer, engaging conversationalist, and a pink-haired dynamo of great ideas. It was a pleasure hearing her take on the modern content marketing landscape.
