LinkedIn Talent Connect 2011 Kicks Off in Las Vegas

Talent Connect is back in Las Vegas this October 10-12, 2012!

Talent Connect 2011, LinkedIn's second annual Recruiting Solutions customer conference, kicked off today at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.  The highly anticipated event is gathering more than 1800 professionals in the recruiting industry (almost triple the size of last year!), where they will be hearing best practices from recruiting professionals at the cutting edge of talent acquisition.  Here is a quick summary of today's sessions, which were mostly led by LinkedIn product specialists.

LinkedIn’s media solutions leaders Eda Gultekin and Dina Medeiros led an interactive session with panelists Tania Craig of Barrick Gold, Peter Moore of Sony Electronics, and Greg Churchman of OtterBox. The panelists are rapidly moving away from the old school method of post-and-pray to the "now school" approach of referrals and networking.  They showed how they can craft a holistic media strategy to engage passive candidates using solutions like Work with Us Ads, tapping into their vast employee networks – and how to prove a great ROI to their company leadership.

After the release of recruitment benchmarking reports earlier today, LinkedIn VP of Sales Dan Shapero delivered a session to show how recruiters can capitalize on LinkedIn’s vast amounts of data to make powerful strategic decisions in their organizations. The benchmarking reports are being featured at the event by the LinkedIn Research Team.

LinkedIn’s Director of Corporate Solutions Products Prasad Gune gave a "what’s new with LinkedIn Recruiter" session (there have been more than 60 improvements since 2010), making it easier for customers to discover top talent. Features include enhanced search capabilities, similar profiles, better user experience and reporting, improved collaboration with key internal stakeholders like hiring managers, and getting passive candidates from LinkedIn Referral Engine.

Rob Humphrey, LinkedIn's lead university evangelist, gave some insight to help recruiters identify, recruit and hire student rock stars with LinkedIn. With the new Student Portal and enhanced options for student profiles, he showed how students can brand themselves more effectively and proactively to find opportunities and better enable recruiters to find them.

Head of Hiring Solutions Products Parker Barrile showcased LinkedIn Jobs Network as a game changer in online job posting, driving users toward a new "post-and-produce" paradigm.  He showed some new ways LinkedIn Jobs target the right passive candidates, including in the homepage update stream, and he previewed a powerful job analytics feature companies will be able to use to prove the ROI of LinkedIn Jobs.  David McMichael from SAIC shared the stage and described how SAIC is leveraging LinkedIn to target candidates with relevant jobs across all of their professional roles.

The insightful sessions promise to continue through tomorrow and Wednesday.  Tuesday morning will feature a keynote address by LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner (watch the streaming event live), where Jeff will reveal LinkedIn's vision for sourcing talent in a social networking world, and what new recruiting tools LinkedIn will unveil.  Jeff's presentation will be followed by an executive panel that will discuss what's on the horizon for the next few years with “Recruiting in 2015.”

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s updates!
