Hiring is on the rise in many countries, a sign that the global labor market could be slowly, steadily recovering. And according to LinkedIn job posting data, global demand for certain roles has grown particularly fast over the past month.

Our latest data reveals that essential workers are still some of the most sought-after talent. The demand for drivers, cooks, and nurses more than doubled compared to the previous month. At the same time, roles like salesperson and software engineer have continued to stay in high demand throughout the pandemic.

Read below to get a full list of the most in-demand roles this month. This post is part of a monthly series where we will track the most in-demand jobs in the world and focus on the up-and-coming roles on the market, helping you inform your hiring strategy and outlook.

Job posts for essential workers have skyrocketed

Essential workers — those who have to physically be at their job to keep society running — have been lauded as heroes during the pandemic, and many initially received pay raises to back up that praise. As lockdowns around the world have started to transition into cautious re-openings, demand for these workers has only increased.

Here are the roles with the greatest month-over-month increase in job posts:

Jobs with the Fastest Growing Demand

  1. Driver
  2. Software Architect
  3. Cook
  4. Nurse
  5. Customer Service Specialist
  6. Home Health Nurse
  7. Site Reliability Engineer
  8. Stock Clerk
  9. General Manager
  10. Architect

Many of these jobs were already showing high demand in last month’s data, and the need for them has grown even more.

Aside from the essential roles on this list (driver, cook, nurse, retail clerk), the jobs with the fastest growing demand reflect a focus on software development, customer service, and construction.

From a global industry perspective, further LinkedIn data shows that the retail and travel/recreation sectors saw some of the biggest increases in job posts. Both industries had previously seen drops in job views and posts, so it’s an encouraging sign that they’re increasingly looking to hire.

Some of the most in-demand jobs are driven by COVID, while others were in high demand pre-pandemic

The previous list showcased which roles saw the greatest month-over-month increase in job posts from May to June. In contrast, this next list covers the jobs with the highest number of job posts in June overall.

The Most In-Demand Jobs for July

  1. Salesperson

  3. Food Delivery Driver
  4. Store Associate
  5. Software Engineer
  6. Driver
  7. Project Manager
  8. Store Clerk
  9. Certified Nursing Assistant
  10. Licensed Practical Nurse

Compared to the first list, this list has stayed relatively stable month-over-month.

It reflects a mix of jobs that were often in high demand before the pandemic — namely, sales and engineering roles — and jobs that have been in high demand since the outbreak, like nursing and retail roles.

Stay tuned for our release and analysis of July’s job posting numbers in August.

Methodology

Based on global LinkedIn data on all premium job posts in May. The most in-demand jobs are those with the highest number of job posts. The jobs with the fastest growing demand are those with the biggest percentage growth in the number of job posts, from May 2020 to June 2020; jobs with fewer than 500 job posts in May were excluded.

Note: In April 2020, LinkedIn began offering free premium job posts for healthcare organizations and other essential services, which may have increased job posts and views for those industries.
