The 10 Must-Read Articles for Recruiters This Week

The past year has been a difficult one for managers. Burnout is on the rise and managers have had to take on many new responsibilities outside of their normal job purview, especially as the pandemic has blurred the lines between employees’ work and personal lives.

As a result of this muddying and these additional responsibilities, a recent article from Quartz argues that it’s time to rethink manager job descriptions. Start, it says, by having frank conversations at your company about what is expected of managers and then be sure to make those expectations abundantly clear in your job descriptions.

“Managers,” the article states, “were forced by the pandemic to think about the interplay between the personal and professional lives of employees in ways they hadn’t before. This may have seemed like an unreasonable or excessive demand for some managers. One year on, companies have the opportunity to formalize this task in a positive way, and coach managers on how to continue empathetically supporting the work-life goals of their employees.”

You can learn more about the weight placed on managers’s shoulders by checking out the Quartz article at the top of our list below of must-read articles for talent professionals.

And further down the list, you can also find out why Asian Americans are pushing for more visibility in the workplace; why a tidal wave of hiring may be just around the corner; how Finland is launching an ambitious project to attract talent from around the world; and why burnt out millennials are quitting their jobs and creating a “YOLO economy.”
