Marketing Book Worth a Look: Jason Miller’s “Welcome to the Funnel”
Warning: If you don’t like fun, this book is not for you.
October 31, 2014
Last month, we kicked off a monthly feature on the LinkedIn Marketing blog profiling a new “Marketing Book Worth a Look.” The aim: to help marketers like you feed your hunger for knowledge.
In September, we reviewed Ann Handley’s new book, Everybody Writes (which you can still pick up on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble, by the way). For October, we wanted to build on the writing chops Ann encouraged us to hone and focus on a skill many marketers are looking to add to their LinkedIn profiles this year: social and content marketing. Specifically, how to leverage this skill to drive business success in B2B marketing today.
This Month’s Recommended Reading: Welcome to the Funnel: Proven Tactics to Turn Your Social and Content Marketing Up to 11 by Jason Miller
It’s no coincidence that this blog post is published on October 31. The heavy metal lover he is, Jason would only want it this way. And with it also being Halloween, this is a real treat for me to publish a review for Welcome to the Funnel given it was written by, well, my boss. I’m just glad he trusts me enough to reveal it to the world. If you like what you read, you can pre-order the book here.
Why Jason wrote Welcome to the Funnel
Most people will agree that Jason is a “no frills, no fluff,” practical kind of guy. So when it came time to write a book – something he’s been wanting to do for some time now – he knew it would be a practical guide with strategies and lessons from one modern marketer to another -- all with a touch of rock ‘n’ roll flare, of course. The reality is this stuff, social and content marketing, can be fun (at least it should be), but it’s also an art and science. Over the past 4 years, Jason has directed the balance of strategy and execution, art and science, trial and error to drive meaningful business objectives in the social media and content marketing space. Along the way, he’s learned a few things -- and this book is his latest way of sharing those learnings with other marketers who want to succeed as he has.
Why you should read it
The short-answer: It’s useful x enjoyable x inspired, which we know is Ann Handley’s formula for truly innovative content. And Jason doesn’t disappoint. Throughout the book he sprinkles in rock ‘n’ roll references and makes the practical, useful tips to succeed in social and content marketing worthwhile to read and nothing like an instruction manual.
What you will learn
Jason’s book will turn you into what he calls a“Renaissance Marketer”, a well-rounded modern marketer, skilled in all things social, content, email, SEO and analytics. Below are a few of the specific topic areas he covers:
