What does a digital marketing specialist do?
A digital marketing specialist is responsible for ideating, implementing, and tracking marketing campaigns that promote a company’s products or services via online channels. Their primary objective is to generate leads and increase sales by driving traffic to the company’s website or social media channels.
They help create a solid digital presence for the company. Thus, digital marketing specialists must know how to ideate, execute, and manage online campaigns across multiple channels and mediums — like organic and paid search, display advertising, email, and social media.
In India, digital marketing specialists are also called ‘digital marketing experts’, ‘digital marketing executives’, or ‘digital marketing managers’.
Here are some questions you can consider as a recruiter before writing a job description:
- What will be the primary and secondary responsibilities of the digital marketing expert
- What are the essential soft skills you require in the candidate? For example, are they self-starters? Can they lead the content team with their ideas?
- What digital campaigns have they handled in the past? What industries have they worked in? Have they created and executed any campaigns from scratch?
It’s also advisable to consult your marketing team to understand their expectations from the candidate and craft a job ad accordingly.
Digital marketing requires quick thinking and creativity to stand out in a crowded online space. So, look for candidates with a creative edge, who can find innovative ideas and execute your marketing campaigns effectively. Also, remember that the candidate will work closely with your team and represent your brand online. So, finding someone who shares your company’s vision and understands your brand voice is important.
