What does a network technician do?
Network technicians install, maintain, and troubleshoot an organisation’s computer networks. This includes both hardware components like routers, switches, and cabling, as well as software components like network protocols and configuration.
These professionals monitor network performance, diagnose connectivity problems, and implement upgrades to ensure optimal functionality. The role of network technicians also involves supporting end-users by resolving network-related issues, setting up secure connections, and educating employees about network best practices.
Whether in a corporate environment, data centre, or field setting, network technicians are crucial for ensuring uninterrupted connectivity and maintaining seamless communication and data flow.
Note that network engineers are different from network technicians. While the former focuses on designing and planning network infrastructure, the latter primarily handles installation, maintenance, and network troubleshooting. Similarly, an IT support specialist provides general technical support for hardware and software issues, while a network technician specialises in resolving network-related problems.
