Michael Schinelli is the Chief Marketing Officer and Associate Dean for External Communications at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. He joined UNC in 2012, where he has focused on initiatives at the intersection of brand, content, audience engagement and the digital space.
Michael is a NYC native and spent his early career there as a designer in product development and architecture firms. He joined Macy’s corporate offices in 2004, where is served as Director of Creative Operations, overseeing graphic design and in-store marketing for Macy's first national division, the Home Store. He later served as Director of Communications across all divisions, for the retailer’s 850 locations.
During his tenure at Macy’s, Michael worked closely on brand integration following the $11B acquisition of May Company department stores and its nameplates including Lord & Taylor, Marshall Field’s and Filene’s. He also participated in introduction of the “My Macy’s” localization initiative and new private brands such as the Martha Stewart Collection. Michael was "lured away" from the corporate sector to higher ed in 2009 by Stevens Institute of Technology where he built marketing, creative and media relations units for the School.
Michael currently lives in Cary, North Carolina with his wife and two sons.
