4 ways to help candidates secure in demand jobs
Identify your candidates transferable skills. As your candidates go through job descriptions for new roles, make sure they are not put off if they lack some of the specific skills being asked for. Think about how the skills they do have could be applied. For example, if they lack direct management experience – have they mentored a new colleague at the same level, or “managed upwards” when dealing with senior colleagues?
Encourage online learning courses. With stiff competition for jobs, reskilling is key to finding new opportunities. An online learning course can help your candidates bridge the gap when transferring from one role to another, and help them feel more confident in their application. Microsoft and LinkedIn have partnered to help people reskill for free by offering access to nearly 1,000 hours of learning courses. Head to opportunity.linkedin.com to find out more.
Lean on your online community. We’ve seen so many heart-warming stories over the past few months from members who have been made redundant or furloughed, and then found new positions through their online community. This shouldn’t stop with candidates, recruiters should be using their community too. Carmen Hudson from Recruiting Toolbox talks about how recruiters should consider building networks of candidates and recruiters to make sure the right candidates are finding the right jobs, rather than just keeping them waiting in their pool.
Help them ace the (virtual) interview. In the current climate, your candidates need to be prepared for a virtual interview. The hardest part of this is establishing a connection with the interviewer. Make sure they use the first few minutes of the call to build a personal connection. It’s also key to choose a quiet location, but they also shouldn’t be afraid to position themselves with a backdrop that tells the interviewer a little something about them. There’s also a range of tools available on LinkedIn that you can use to help your candidates brush up on interview skills and give them the best chance of success - including a new AI feedback feature to practice answers and get helpful pointers before the real thing.
