[Organization X] is looking for a knowledgeable and detail-oriented tax associate to join our accounting team.

As our newest tax associate, you’ll be responsible for preparing tax returns and ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations at every step of the filing process. You’ll also maintain thorough tax records for our organization, compiling reports on expenditures, payroll, and revenue. In addition to serving an important role within the accounting department, you’ll work across teams to communicate tax strategy to key members of the organization.

Objectives of this Role

  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal tax laws by accurately determining the amount due and preparing and filing annual tax returns
  • Keep tax liability at a minimum by leveraging deductions, exemptions, and high-level knowledge of tax laws
  • Educate fellow team members and clients on forthcoming policy changes, technical financial concepts, and best practices
  • Maintain comprehensive tax records and financial data for institutional use and audits
  • Meet strict deadlines to avoid late fees and penalties

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

  • Track yearly and quarterly revenue and expenses for the preparation of state and federal tax returns
  • Create additional documentation as needed, including internal tax and forecasting reports
  • Collaborate with team members to communicate tax strategies to coworkers outside of the accounting department
  • Maintain an accurate database of tax records and manage electronic bookkeeping software
  • Stay updated on industry developments

Skills and Qualifications

  • Exemplary accounting and bookkeeping skills
  • In-depth knowledge of state and federal tax codes, laws, and regulations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage time effectively

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 1-3 years’ experience in tax preparation, finance, or accounting
  • Experience tracking and analyzing data using accounting software, such as Microsoft Excel or Intuit QuickBooks
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g. CPA for work in the U.S.)
